One Year Check-Up

Evelyn had her one year well-check today.  She's still tiny.  Here are here statistics:

Weight: 16 pounds, 8 ounces (12 ounces since 9 months) - 1st percentile
Length: 26 inches (1 inch since 9 months) - not on the chart anymore
Head Circumference: 45 cm (1 cm since 9 months) - 47th percentile

Her pediatrician is concerned about how small she is.  I haven't thought much of it, until I just typed the change from 9 months above.  Her doctor wants us to start giving her 2-3 cans of Pediasure each day to add about 500 extra calories to her diet each day.  I'm also trying to think of higher calorie snacks/meals to feed her...that are still relatively healthy!  We go back in a month for a weight check, and if she hasn't gained well, they are going to run labs to rule out any underlying issues.  Trying to remind myself that truth is not what I see, but what God says!

  1. Ryker dipped on the growth scale before his 1 year appt. He was always is the higher percentiles until then and he was in the 20th for weight or something at his 1 year check up. We added full fat cottage cheese and other "fatty" but healthy foods and he more than made up for it by 15 months. Hope the changes in her diet work for Evelyn too. You are right to remember that He is in control and to just keep praying! I'll be doing the same.

  2. Stacey,

A very wise woman recently gave me this verse, so I'll pass it along to you: Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you."

    Praying peace over you!

When I see Evelyn, all I see is perfection.

    Love you, Em

  3. Have you done any nut butters yet? Since she is one you can probably introduce them now. Almond, cashew, peanut, they are all high in fat and kids generally love them. Spread them on toast or make a sandwich and cut it up in bitesize pieces. How about homemade mac and cheese? You can add some veggie puree but still load it up on cheese. Shay has always been low and I think it was his one year check up where he dipped a lot too. But this is also when they become really active so they are burning up a lot of calories. If all else fails, ditch the healthy and give her some Ben & Jerry's!
